THE PILLARS OF CAISAC
In accordance with CAISAC's goals or mission (see OBJECTIVES), we intend – through intercession, mediation or even raising and redistributing funds under supervision – to support initiatives of merit in areas that still need great help for initiation or restructuring, transformation or, simply, improvement. Here we briefly describe the areas, so to speak, identified and selected as worthy of intervention by CAISAC, which we present asTHE PILLARS OF CISAC:
The resident population in Cape Verde is 498,063 individuals - according to the 2021 CENSUS - divided into nine islands. It is a relatively young population - average 26 years of age. It is an archipelago with poor economic and financial resources, where 13% of its population lives in extreme poverty (on less than 1.9 dollars a day) according to data provided by the INE (National Institute of Statistics). Tourism represents the country's largest source of income, 25% of the gross domestic product, a sector greatly affected by the health and economic crises.
Cape Verde is a country with a dry tropical climate, where rainfall is rare, and it is directly influenced by the Sahara desert. The climate change that the world is experiencing today is felt in the country, especially considering the drought that has been lasting almost a decade. The sun shines throughout the year, the sea bathes all the islands and with these two resources it is possible to leverage the country and make it a pleasant place, without pollution and highly sustainable.
Culture is the genuine expression of a people. Their way of speaking, their hospitality, their eating habits, their music; in short, their general experience and Cape Verde, being an archipelago-country, is enriched with a very diverse and beautiful cultural wealth. Our music is undoubtedly the highest exponent with ‘MORNA’ recently recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. Other cultural manifestations - for example, such as ‘Batuku’, ‘Funana’, ‘Katxupa’, etc - are under study with a view to deserving such international recognition as ‘Morna’.
